Kick Out the Bad Food Habits

When it comes to our diet, we tend to be creatures of habit. We find a meal plan that works for our schedule and our budget, but is your standard meal plan harmful to your overall health? We want to help you change your ways and create a healthy food lifestyle for you and your family!

Kicking the Bad Food Habits

1.       Start your day with a HEALTHY breakfast that you prepare ahead of time. Many of us eat too little or too much for breakfast. The key is to find a meal that will give you energy, satisfy your hunger and contain nutrients to nourish your body. We recommend a meal that includes whole grains, lean protein, low-fat dairy, and fruits and vegetables.

2.       Watch your portion sizes. The average American needs to reduce their portion size by at least 20% and give up second helpings. To get you started, a serving of vegetables or fruit should be the size of your fist while one serving of meal would be the size of a deck of cards.

3.       If you haven’t already, switch to low-fat dairy and whole-grain bread. These are easy, well defined ways to cut unnecessary fats out of your diet.

4.       Increase water and decrease sugary drinks.

5.       Get a nutritious snack every few hours. A good way to make sure you are sticking to this is by having plenty of nutritious snacks available. We recommend purchasing fruit and whole grain options to take with you to work each day.

6.       For flavoring your dinner, use herbs, vinegar, lemon or mustard instead of buttery sauces.

These are just a few ways to kick start your healthy eating habits. Once you have mastered these 6 tips, start watching your food labels for dangerous ingredients and fine-tune your meal plans for the whole family.

We care deeply about your overall health. If you have questions, give us a call today!
